Film Noir: Politics and Paranoia

West Norwood Picturehouse are running a four week course on Film Noir, arguably Hollywood’s most renowned genre; but what exactly is it? In this course, Dr Katie Da Cunha Lewin will take you through the genre signifiers, explain its history, and discuss the most famous film noir produced during Hollywood’s golden years. The course will be taught by introductory lectures on a variety of topics associated with film noir, film clips and recommendations, and with plenty of time for discussion.

When: from Friday 24 January to Friday 14 February 2020 (7:15-9:15pm)

Brixton Bulls open trial for juniors

Brixton Bulls are hosting an open trial for their rugby league junior teams – years 7, 8 and 9. No previous experience is necessary. Weekly sessions follow during term time.

Rugby league is a game for all, with fast paced backs running down the wing and strong forwards storming down the middle of the pitch so no matter what your strength is, there will be a place for you on the pitch. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive atmosphere, allowing all players to reach their potential whilst having fun!

When: Saturday 14 December 2019 (starts at 10am)

Thames Water Norwood Road mains works: further delay!

Following on from the public meeting on 4 December, the Forum sought further clarification from Thames Water and the Knights Hill and Thurlow Park ward councillors. New information provided by the councillors is that Tuesday 24 December is now the planned finish date for the current water mains works along Norwood Road (not 20 December). Road closures, compounds, portacabins etc will be removed progressively as Christmas approaches.

First Step Trust courses

A series of courses in the new year for those who are:

  • A resident of Lambeth
  • Over the age of 18
  • Have one or more of the following, mental health problems, drug and alcohol recovery or other disadvantages.

Thames Water Mains Works 2019 now to continue to 20 December

It was announced at yesterday’s public meeting, that the current phase of works along Norwood Road will now not end on 14 December but continue to Friday 20 December 2019. This is to enable the works at Lancaster Avenue to be completed before Christmas and so remove the need to close Lancaster Avenue again in 2020.  The remaining work of this phase is to complete the Elmcourt Road to Ullswater Road section of new pipe, excavate some trial holes and do the connections to the new pipe work.

Thrale Charity grants

With a mission to use their resources to help improve the lives of people in the ancient parish of Streatham, applications for grant funding can be made to the Thrale Charity.

Applications for work with those in conditions of need, hardship or distress, will be accepted from registered charities, institutions, organisations or groups having a suitably recognised status. Groups applying should be working with people in need who live in SW2, SW12, SW16, SW17, SE21, SE24 and SE27. The closing date is 3 January 2020.
