Lambeth Council elections on 3 May 2018: No Vote, No Say

Elections will be held on Thursday 3 May to elect all 63 Lambeth Ward Councillors across the 21 wards in our borough. Locally, we will elect three councillors in each ward: Gipsy Hill, Knights Hill and Thurlow Park.

To vote in the Lambeth Council elections, you must be registered to vote. Lambeth Electoral Services wrote to all households recently detailing the names of everyone who is registered. If you did not see this letter, or there were errors or omissions take action now. The deadline to register is Tuesday 17 April 2018.

Peddle My Wheels

A Lambeth Council funded initiative to supply affordable used and new bikes and follow up training to make cycling accessible to everyone is coming to West Norwood Feast on Sunday 1 April. Peddle My Wheels is a business that puts the environment before financial profit.

West Norwood Free Film Festival: 48 hour Film Challenge

As part of the West Norwood Free Film Festival 2018, a 48 Hour Film Challenge (WNFFF 48h), open to anyone interested in film-making is to be held. The kick-off event is Friday 13 April 2018.

The shortlisted entries will then be screened at the 48-hour Film Festival Competition Event on Sunday 29 April, held at the Portico Gallery (23B Knight's Hill, SE27 0HS). Winning entries will be judged by a panel of experts in the following categories:

Water leaks: Thames Water

As if the snow and winds were not enough, many Norwood residents were recently plagued by the entirely man-made disaster of cuts of up to five days to their water supply or ridiculously low water pressure.

Harpenden Road pedestrian crossing

On the topic of improving our streets, You may have noticed that plans to build a pedestrian crossing near the Access Self Storage centre and Harpenden Road and to make Harpenden Road a one way street with a junction for cyclists have been paused. The decision to install this crossing was the result of overwhelming public demand at the many Streetworks consultation meetings last year. In spite of this, during the official consultation period a complaint was received from a local business and the Council is obliged to consider the merit of this before works can progress.

West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre: improvements to grounds

Lambeth Council is proposing some changes to the grounds at West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre to improve the safety and cleanliness of the area for children and to attract natural wildlife while maintaining a green space for our community to use. Some proposals have been developed in response to feedback from local people about how they would like the space to be used. These are:

Under the banner “Our Streets”, Lambeth Council wants your ideas on how to improve local streets to make your neighbourhood a better place to live. This could include more street trees, greening, more traffic calming, or improving road safety. Our Streets is the latest phase of the Neighbourhood Enhancement Programme and has been developed by Lambeth in order to totally change the process of undertaking consultation on street improvements.

Between the Tracks After School Club: vacancy for sessional worker

Want to make a difference to the lives of inner-city young people?

4All are hiring a sessional worker for their Between the Tracks After School Club (BTT).

BTT help support young people aged 8-12 through engaging, constructive and enjoyable activities. BTT’s members live on or near three social housing estates in West Dulwich.

Job terms: 6 hours per week (Mondays and Wednesdays 3-6pm) during term time plus some holiday activities: £12 per hour.

Lambeth wins London Mayor’s Cultural Impact Award

Lambeth Council has won a Cultural Impact Award for £200k for its project Lambeth – Next Generation. Lambeth will work with young black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) Londoners to help them develop careers in the arts – inspiring the next generation of artists and cultural leaders. It will be supported by major cultural institutions across the borough including the South Bank Centre, Old Vic, BFI and the National Theatre.
