Harpenden Road pedestrian crossing

On the topic of improving our streets, You may have noticed that plans to build a pedestrian crossing near the Access Self Storage centre and Harpenden Road and to make Harpenden Road a one way street with a junction for cyclists have been paused.  The decision to install this crossing was the result of overwhelming public demand at the many Streetworks consultation meetings last year. In spite of this, during the official consultation period a complaint was received from a local business and the Council is obliged to consider the merit of this before works can progress.

This is particularly annoying as this is a busy section of road used by many Elmgreen students and the earlier crossing was removed due to pavement widening. Please help us move this forward before there are any terrible accidents at this site.

Streetworks and Norwood Forum are working with the Councillor who is leading on this review to try and bring about a resolution as soon as possible. If you would like to express your support for the crossing please do contact Councillor Anna Birley via email at ABirley@lambeth.gov.uk.
