West Norwood library: update

The Head of Lambeth Library Services (Susanna Barnes) and West Norwood Library Manager (Maria Kwofie) gave a presentation at the Norwood Forum AGM on progress and the expected opening of the new Library in the late summer 2018. They were naturally cagey about the exact date not wanting to tempt fate but were optimistic and excited about what the future months hold. The flooring is currently being laid, shelving to follow soon after and then the first tranche of books would be ordered.

Norwood Forum AGM: Saturday 16 June (1pm)

Come to the Norwood Forum AGM to hear about the plans for the new West Norwood Library. Our current understanding is the Library and Cinema will open in late summer 2018. We will hear from the Head of Lambeth Libraries and the West Norwood Library Manager about their plans and the timescales.

There will also be talks from local community groups including new initiatives and projects concerning youth, cultural and mental health

There will also be a short period of time spent on normal AGM business.

Streetworks

Both the new zebra crossing by Harpenden Road and the pavement widening on a stretch of the Norwood Road have been criticised by some because it is felt that the consultations were not thorough enough and the concern that the reduction in parking on the main road will affect local businesses.  Many others have been very pleased with the improvements.  Norwood Forum is a participant in Streetworks and we believe that these changes were long overdue.  The wider pavements are more attractive for pedestrians, easier for mothers with buggies and arguably better for retailers who can now use the

Wonder is putting together a ‘Guide of Community Assets’ and needs your help

What are ‘community assets’?
They are any ‘place’ – indoors or out – that could be used for an event. It could be for public events like workshops or live music nights, or it could be for private events such as a wedding reception or a surgery. The guide will list everything you need to know – location, resources available such as kitchen or kettle/chairs and tables, access information including parking, contact details and, of course, cost.
