You might have seen the news about the USA sending up two astronauts this evening to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch is scheduled for 9:33pm and currently there is a 60% chance of lift off, weather permitting. All times are UK time (British Summer Time). CANCELLED! Watch this space for an update.
You may already look for the ISS in the night sky; the view has been excellent these past few nights. Tonight not only can you see the ISS, but you can also see the Dragon capsule carrying the astronauts. www.nasa.gov/feature/coverage-of-landmark-nasa-spacex-commercial-crew-test-flight
The Dragon capsule will be visible from Norwood between 9:50pm and 9:57pm tonight (27 May 2020) coming in from the West.
The ISS will go over at 10:57pm, also coming from the West and heading towards the SSE. It's like a very big, very bright plane, though with no flashing lights, and it moves with strong intent, boldly across the sky - like nothing else, otherwise hard to explain!
It's a wonderful thing to see and you don't have to leave home to see it!
