Hopefully you have all read about the Southwark Metals proposal and have come to the same conclusion as us and the other community groups involved in fighting this planning application: it would disastrous for West Norwood because of the increase in traffic and mostly from huge lorries, as well as many other reasons.. NAG estimate that the total of site vehicle movements would be around 60,000 each year. Within a six mile radius that's around 350,000 vehicle miles every year in and around our neighbourhood. 130 tonnes of scrap metal in and out every day – 35,000 tonnes per year.
There are many other reasons to object: danger to pedestrians and cyclists, noise and vibration, air pollution, impact on the neighbouring schools as well as other schools in the neighbourhood, impact on the immediate homes, impact on our traffic calmed town centre and its local shops, possible threat to the Post Office sorting office, the impact on the site itself - - - - -. No advantages for West Norwood can be identified. The joint community group objection was submitted on 1 June 2020 and can be read on the planning database (see below).
The closing date for planning objections is Friday 5 June. So if you have not done so already:
1. Most importantly, think about what this application would mean to you and your family if it was approved. Then just type a few sentences about that. To make your views known, go to the Lambeth Planning Portal here and enter the reference no: 20/01066 to reach the web page. Then click the ‘Make a Comment’ tab, and complete the form, pasting in your comments.
2. Please sign the petition . (currently well on the way to 2,500 signatures).
3. Encourage your neighbours and other friends to do the same.
