The fourth (and sadly our last for 2023) in our series of seasonal guided bird walks for this year, join Lev Parikian as we search for birdlife as West Norwood Cemetery moves into early Autumn.

The walk will last 90 minutes and while much of it will be on paths, we may need to get closer to some birds off the trails, so please come prepared. We highly recommend that you bring binoculars, but we will have a pair you can borrow.
After the walk, we will adjourn for a refreshments and there will be a chance to ask Lev questions and also to buy signed copies of Lev's books.
This walk is part of Wild Norwood, our FREE community festival celebrating nature in our urban, inner London borough, and is run in partnership with South London Botanical Institute. The walk is led by well-known London tree expert, Greg Packman and in collaboration with West Norwood Cemetery National Lottery Heritage Fund project.
When we arrive back at the entrance to the cemetery, we will find the final Wild Norwood event: 'Glowing Cemetery' Festive Fair in full swing, with Morris dancers, stalls and carol singing. Lev Parikian is a writer and conductor living in London.
His six books cover a range of subjects: Why Do Birds Suddenly Disappear? is the story of his return to birdwatching after an absence of 30 years; Into The Tangled Bank explores our relationship with the natural world; Light Rains Sometimes Fall is a year of nature on his local patch; Music To Eat Cake By is a collection of essays on subjects given to him by readers; and Waving, Not Drowning is a lighthearted look at the mysterious world of orchestral conducting. As a conductor, Lev is devoted to the rich world of amateur music-making, and works with several London-based orchestras. He has also produced two CDs, with the BBC Concert Orchestra and the City of Oxford Orchestra, of music by Stuart Hancock and Roland Roberts. A particular highlight was conducting the theme tune for The Missing Hancocks for BBC Radio 4 with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Lev was also the instigator of the popular ‘Twitter Birdsong Project’, day-by day guide designed to help beginners unravel the mysteries of British birdsong.
