Knight's Hill water leaks

Since early today Friday 28 November 2025, Knight's Hill (northerly direction) has been closed to through traffic from Crown Point to enable Thames Water to mend the burst water main outside West Norwood railway station and The Great North Wood pub.

This leak had been first reported to Thames Water by members of the public on Wednesday and a number of deep potholes developed causing mahem for all passing traffic. Water continues to flood down Knight's Hill. Thames Water say they expect to complete the remedial works on Monday 1 December (works ref.no.: BB 01032487). However TfL say the planned bus diversions are expected to run until 3 December.

Buses are on extensive diversion:
Northbound to central London: routes 2, 432, 690, N2, 196, 468, N68 & SL6 are on diversion via Crown Lane, Streatham Common North, Leigham Court Road, Streatham Hill, Christchurch Road, Hardel Rise and Tulse Hill (south circular). The 68 is starting northbound at Tulse Hill (stop A). All northbound bus stops from Crown Point to Tulse Hill station (stop F) are closed. Unfortunately, the necessary closure notices were not on display this morning, but the notices are now in place at these bus stops.
Southbound to destinations south of West Norwood: route 68 is being terminated at Tulse Hill. All other southbound routes are said to be running as normal.

The water leak at the bottom of Knight's Hill (first reported on 9 November) is still beng repaired by Thames Water, but we were pleased it proved possible to tackle this repair by working in the middle of the road and not closing the road completely.

We will update this web page when we learn more.
