Stoptober – quit smoking and breathe

Stoptober is back for 2020, helping Lambeth smokers to quit. Winter’s just around the corner. October begins the season of colds and flu and now, we also face the risk of Covid-19 chest infection. The healthier your lungs are, the better. The evidence is smokers who quit for 28 days are five times more likely to quit for good.

Public Debate On Slavery-Related Monuments And Street Names

Lambeth Council has announced a public listening exercise with residents and community/faith-based groups to decide on the next steps to assess and review locations in the borough with historic direct and indirect links to the trans-Atlantic slave trade (TAST) and colonialism.

A council review group commissioned by Councillor Sonia Winifred, Cabinet Member for Equalities and Culture (and Councillor for Knight's Hill Ward) has found:

Virgo Fidelis Convent High School to close?

The Roman Catholic voluntary-aided secondary school for girls at the bottom of Crown Dale is set to close. The closure of Virgo Fidelis is being proposed by the school’s Interim Executive Governing Board (IEGB), with the support of the Archdiocese of Southwark and Croydon Council.

Cycling and sustainability news from Lambeth Council

News includes join the online events for Lambeth Clean Air Week, applying for support under the governemnt Green Homes Grant scheme, ‘Don’t Zap the Zip’ campaign to stop the Government taking away free public transport for under-18-year-olds, and the launch of two more low-traffic neighbourhoods (both of which abut our area: Streatham Hill East and Tulse Hill) and 14 school streets.

Volunteering opportunities this week

This week's opportunties for volunteering from Team Lambeth include Project Smith Community Connectors (local people who link others in their local community with activities and organisations that can help improve their quality of life) and Home-Start Lambeth volunteers who provide support, friendship and practical help to families with at least one child under five who are experiencing difficulties.
