National Tree Week

This week is National Tree Week - running until Sunday 6 December 2020. Tree Week is promoted by the Tree Council as the UK’s largest annual tree celebration and to mark the start of the winter tree planting season (November to March each year). This year, as for most things in 2020, events and activities are a little different than usual.

Gipsy Hill community Christmas Tree

We are pleased to hear that the Friends of Gipsy Hill’s fundraiser for their first community Christmas tree has successfully met its target. The tree represents light shining out in the dark evenings and a focal point to bring the community together. read more about the tree of hope here on the Friends website.

Census 2021

Autumn leaves

The Council's contractor Veolia deploys an enhanced sweeping service every Autumn, employing 26 additional sweepers to concentrate on areas where leaf-fall is heaviest. Despite their best efforts, Veolia finds it is never easy to keep on top of it, particularly during the type of windy weather we've been experiencing, and has also asked its local street champion volunteers to help.

Volunteer to help your community

We publish weekly the specific volunteering opportunities advertised on the behalf of local community and voluntary organisations by Lambeth Council: Team Lambeth. Lambeth also maintains a pool of potential volunteers, and you can apply to join by filling in the online form here. You will then receive volunteering opportunities on a weekly basis. All volunteers will be given additional guidance on how to stay safe and protect vulnerable people when requests for volunteering support are made.
