The proposed development for a new Shurgard storage facility on the corner of Knight's Hill and Chapel Road, and neighbouring the existing Yellow Box self store facility, has been approved this week by Lambeth's Planning Applications Committee. So this long vacant site may at last be close to being developed.
There will be no access to the site for vehicles via Chapel Road and the new access on Knight’s Hill will be designed to reduce the risk of accidents. Alos £40,000 has been secured to tackle the longstanding problem of speeding vehicles travelling up and down Knight’s Hill.
The proposal is in line with Lambeth policy - this site is within the Key Inductrial & Business Area (KIBA) and therefore could only be used for business or industrial use. Given the access proposals and funding for action against speeding, and the previous inappropriate developments put forward, we did not object.
You can read more about the approved development (application no.: 25/02646/FUL) on the Lambeth Planning Portal, and by reading the officer report to the Plannng Applications Committee.
This empty site was last considered in 2022-23 for use as an Aldi store.
