Lambeth Urges Residents to Get MMR Vaccination as Measles Cases Rise

Lambeth currently has the second highest number of confirmed measles cases in the UK since January 2024, with most cases affecting children aged 5 to 11. The council and local health services are urging residents to check their vaccination status and ensure that both children and adults are fully protected.

Measles is a highly infectious disease that can lead to serious complications, including infections of the lungs and brain. The best protection is the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine, which is available free of charge through the NHS.

Two doses of the MMR vaccine are needed for full protection. If you're unsure whether you or your child have received both doses, contact your GP surgery. It’s never too late to get vaccinated.

Ensuring high vaccination rates in the community helps to protect everyone, including those who are more vulnerable or unable to receive the vaccine themselves.
