Lambeth Council is encouraging residents to host street parties in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day and Victory over Japan (VJ) Day this year. With VE Day set for Thursday 8 May 2025, and VJ Day on Friday 15 August 2025, the council has set up an online form for those interested in hosting events, with a deadline for road closure applications on 30 March for VE Day and 22 June for VJ Day.

Councillor Donatus Anyanwu, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, emphasised the importance of these events as opportunities to reflect on history, celebrate freedom, and strengthen community bonds. The government has also provided a guide for hosting street parties, available on their website.
