Lambeth Council's consultation on the Rosendale and Turney School Streets ends on Tuesday 4 March 2025. Share your views and respond to the consultation here.
Local group Rosendale Clean Air has spent five years campaigning, conducting traffic analysis and community outreach work which has led to its introduction. The analysis concluded that there would be significant improvements to congestion levels on Croxted Road, by far the most congested road surrounding the school streets, and proposed safety improvements to the road at the same time. These are now subject to a joint funding bid to Transport for London from Lambeth and Southwark Councils, with a decision due in March 2025. The proposed improvements include additional zebra crossing points.
This school street is one of the largest in London. However, issues have been raised around signage, timings and most importantly, the area around Turney School car park which is currently outside the zone. We have been informed that Lambeth Council is looking to address these concerns, with some signage improvements already in place. Any further changes will be subject to additional consultation.
Despite these challenges, the school street achieves its core objective which is to significantly reduce the use of motor vehicles around Rosendale School, one of Lambeth's largest state primary schools, thereby improving air quality and safety.
