Lambeth Announces Decision on Proposed CPZ in West Dulwich area

In December 2024, Lambeth Council concluded its statutory consultation on two key proposals - the Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) and Healthy Route in the West Dulwich area - releasing a decision report that outlines the outcomes and next steps. The consultation results, alongside officers’ recommendations, were reviewed before final decisions were made. The council had initially shared information about these proposals back in August 2024, inviting residents and stakeholders to provide feedback and ensure that our local community shared their views on these new initiatives.

Key Decisions:

  1. Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) Proposal
After assessing the feedback, the council has decided to conduct another statutory consultation on a revised proposal for a reduced hours CPZ. The new plan suggests operational hours of 12pm to 2pm, Monday to Friday. We are seeking clarity on how to respond to this consultation and will share information once we hear more on this.
  2. Healthy Route Implementation
The council will proceed with the implementation of the Brockwell Park to Gipsy Hill Phase 3 Healthy Route as originally planned. This initiative is part of the council's commitment to promoting safer, more sustainable travel options and improving air quality in the borough.

The decision report, detailing the consultation findings and the council’s rationale, is now available online.

Next Steps:

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the upcoming consultation on the revised CPZ proposal. The consultation closes 9 February 2025 and further information can be found on the website. Representations for or against the proposals should be made via the online engagement portal at https://consultation.appyway.com/lambeth

Meanwhile, work on the Healthy Route will begin, with updates shared with the community as the project progresses.

Further details:

  • Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) is a designated area where parking is managed through restrictions such as permits or limited parking hours. CPZs aim to reduce congestion, improve road safety, and prioritize parking for residents and businesses. They are particularly effective in addressing parking pressures caused by commuters, visitors, or events in busy neighbourhoods.
  • Healthy Route is part of the council's active travel initiatives designed to create safer, greener and more sustainable transportation corridors. These routes typically include improvements for pedestrians and cyclists, such as widened footpaths, better crossings, reduced traffic volumes, and segregated cycle lanes. The aim is to encourage walking and cycling, reduce vehicle emissions, and enhance air quality, contributing to healthier communities.
