West Dulwich Street Improvements: August 2024 update

Statutory consultation by Lambeth Council is underway until 20 September 2024 on aspects of the West Dulwich street improvements scheme, which has three components:

  • West Dulwich Street Improvements (including trial traffic management measures)
  • Brockwell Park to Gipsy Hill Healthy Route (phase 3)
  • West Dulwich Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ)

We reported in April and May 2023 on the proposals being designed to make the neighbourhood safer, healthier and more climate resilient and the informal public consultation then underway. This had followed earlier informal public consultation in January/February 2022. The Council’s further engagement with local residents resulted in the publication of a revised scheme in February 2024 and Lambeth officers are now working on implementing this scheme.

This Council leaflet sets out the proposals, explaining how they were amended from the April/May 2023 version, and seeks views under the statutory consultation process now underway on:

  • The Street Improvements trial, including traffic filters under an Experimental Traffic Order. The first six months of the trial is a statutory consultation period during which any member of the public can submit feedback and make representations and/or objections. The amended Street Improvements (including traffic filters) are subject overall to an 18-month trial. Trial traffic data will be collected. The Council says the trial will enable traffic engineers and the community to experience the scheme in real time rather than speculating on predicted outcomes. Proceeding in this way will also permit the scheme to be suspended or modified where this is deemed essential and based on data.
  • The introduction of permanent Traffic Orders for both the CPZ and Healthy Route extension.

The locations on the Council website of all the appropriate documentation, and advice on how to make representations, is all set out in this leaflet. Interested residents, and especially those considering making representations,  should also read the further advice note which sets out Frequently Asked Questions on the street improvements scheme.

Along with other local groups, we will shortly be meeting with Lambeth officers to learn more about the proposals and ask questions. We will update this story as necessary in the light of that meeting. In the meantime here is a timeline on all three parts of this project, as described in the advice note (link above):
