Lambeth Council is seeking feedback on plans to install 148 new dockless bays for rental e-scooters and e-bikes, expanding the borough's existing network. This expansion would increase the total number of bays to over 350, making them accessible within a 3 minute walk for most residents. The new bays aim to improve the convenience and safety of parking rental vehicles, addressing concerns about blocking pavements and creating accessibility issues for people using wheelchairs or pushchairs. The proposed Phase Four locations can be found in this map.
The council has launched a consultation on the proposals and is asking residents to respond by visiting the consultation portal. The consultation will last 21 days, starting on Friday November 15 and will finish on Friday December 6.
The proposed bays will be located in busy areas and residential neighbourhoods with fewer existing docking stations, ensuring better coverage for both commuters and visitors. The initiative supports Lambeth's Transport Strategy and Kerbside Strategy, which focus on repurposing car parking spaces for sustainable transport solutions like cycling and e-scooting.
The e-scooter operators for the trial are Lime and Voi, while Lime and Forest operate the rental e-bikes. Cllr Rezina Chowdhury, the Deputy Leader of the Council, emphasised the importance of users parking their scooters and bikes in designated bays to avoid obstructing pavements, ensuring a safer and more accessible environment for all.
