Lambeth Council's Planning Applications Committee has approved the proposed development on the south side of Tulse Hill railway station - on land on the corner of Avenue Park Road and Thurlow Park Road (the south circular).
The development by Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing will see the erection of a seven storey residential scheme comprising 76 social rent units and Class E(g)(iii) floorspace at ground floor {i.e. Light Industrial in a residential area/shops/restaurants etc}, with associated refuse, cycle storage and a landscaping scheme. The scheme had attracted some 50 objections. The objection from Helen Hayes MP summarised the view of many:
"My constituents recognise that this is an application for 100% affordable housing and recognise the need for housing in the local area. As such, they are not generally opposing the principle of this development or the proposed use. They are, however, concerned that at 7 storeys, and given the elevated location of the site relative to the surrounding area, the proposed development would be excessively tall for the local area with consequent impacts on loss of light and amenity for surrounding residents. - - -"
