Norwood Forum supports Plastic Mountain, a not-for-profit organisation that uses art to raise awareness of the plastic issue and to inspire action. Plastic Mountain is launching its public art installation on Friday, 30 June in West Norwood. The installation is a mound with plastic waste in its layers, which will erode and reveal the plastic. The sculpture will contrast the natural and the artificial, challenge the viewers to rethink their plastic habits, and show how waste can become wonder. The location is the traffic island opposite West Norwood Library & Picturehouse (where the Christmas tree goes at Christmas).
Plastic Mountain invites you to help make the installation by adding earth and plastic. You don't need any previous experience, all materials and tools will be provided, just bring your enthusiasm and creativity! The sculpture will be made over the first three weekends in July and you can sign up to help on their website plasticmountain.org.
The unveiling will take place on Sunday, 6 August and will mark the completion of the sculpture and the final phase of Plastic Mountain’s campaign, which has involved a mural display on Norwood Road and at West Norwood Picturehouse, art workshops in schools, and participation in the West Norwood Feast.
Plastic Mountain is a project that aims to inspire you to take action towards a more sustainable and beautiful future. Plastic Mountain is supported by Arts Council England, Lambeth Council, Norwood Forum, Friends of the Earth, and various local businesses and organisations.
Norwood Forum is very happy to be part of Plastic Mountain, and we hope you can join them too. Together, we can make a difference.
