Commemorate and celebrate Windrush 75!

Lambeth Council is hosting and publicising a number of events to commemorate and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush arriving at Tilbury Docks on 22 June 1948; see here.

At least one Windrush pioneer is buried in West Norwood Cemetery: Oswald "Columbus" Denniston. You can read his obituary in this Guardian article

West Norwood Cemetery has partnered with West Norwood Library for a Windrush event:
Friday 30 June, 6.30pm - 8pm
Dr Velma McClymont will discuss writing, her novel Little River - the story of Scotland and Jamaica and talk about the black experience in Britain during the Windrush era: 1948-1973.
