Part of the Lambeth Readers and Writers Festival 2018, Go Girls! is led by the West Norwood based Poetry Slabs. A shared reading of poems by seven whip-smart African-American female authors who are turning poetry inside-out and upside-down all the way from Brooklyn to Los Angeles: Robin Coste Lewis, Safiya Sinclair, Morgan Parker (There are more beautiful things than Beyoncé), Nicole Sealey, Eve L Ewing, Patricia Smith (Every woman begins as weather), and Harryette Mullen (Poetry, in general, is a rule-breaking activity). Audience members are invited to bring their own favourite poem in the same vein to add to the mix.
Poetry Slabs of course are the arts advocacy group who in 2017 engineered the local landmark installation at Norwood Bus Garage of a 200-square-foot toxin-busting banner inscribed with Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy’s utterly buzzworthy poem A Rare Bee.
When: Sunday 6 May (2:30pm)
Where: The Old Library, 14-16 Knights Hill, West Norwood, SE27 0HY
