Lambeth Council has written to advise that changes to parking arrangements and waiting & loading restrictions in West Norwood town centre will shortly be implemented.

This is further to our earlier story in January 2022 on how to submit comments on the planned changes. In the light of views received, the proposals received formal approval in March 2022. You can read more here on the Council's website.

The Council's contractor Ringway are expected to be on-site towards the end of w/c Monday 4 July 2022 to undertake the necessary signing and lining changes. In addition, this will include refurbishment of parking bay markings, yellow lines and yellow kerb blips (note: white zigzag markings, bus cages etc will be refurbished following the resurfacing works (see below)).

Enforcement of the new arrangements is likely to commence in the middle of July. Helpfully, the Council's contractor will carry out ‘soft enforcement’ for the first two weeks . This will take the form of the issue of Warning Notices only so that motorists can become accustomed to the new arrangements. After this two week period Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) will be issued. The Council will also publish a newsletter in advance of the ‘soft enforcement’ period and we will also publish that as soon as possible.

We are grateful to the Council's parking team for all the work undertaken on this review and to their responsiveness to issues we raised as they arose during the lengthy process.

We have also been working with the Council's Highways Improvement Team to schedule the long planned and much delayed extensive resurfacing of Norwood Road (most of the stretch from Tulse Hill gyratory to Robson Road): a Streetworks project. The engineering plans await the outcome of drainage investigation works at Tulse Hill (Norwood Road) railway bridge - see story here. We will publicise firm dates for the resurfacing works as soon they are firmed up. We also understand that TfL plan to resurface the entirety of the Tulse Hill gyratory.
