Residents will be able to pay their respects to the nation’s war dead at a series of events arranged by Lambeth Council across the borough on Remembrance Sunday, 14 November 2021.
The annual ceremonies, which are held across the UK, honour the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community, the British and Commonwealth veterans, the Allies that fought alongside us and the civilian servicemen and women involved in the two World Wars and later conflicts. You can read more here about the programme, wreath laying, further services, the Armed Forces Covenant, and Covid-19 advice.
Locally, two Remembrance Sunday events will be held:
- St Luke’s Church Garden St. Luke’s West Norwood, SE27 0DT, 2:30pm
- Vincennes Memorial, at the corner of the corner of Carnac Street and Hamilton Road, SE27 9RR; 3pm. This service will be attended by the Mayor of Lambeth, Helen Hayes MP, and local ward councillors. Wreaths will be laid, including one from Norwood Forum on behalf of our local community. The Band of the Upper Norwood Salvation Army will perform; refreshments afterwards at Emmanuel Church.
Across from this memorial, on the corner of Vale street and Carnac street you will find an orchard. The fruit trees were chosen by Open Orchard, in consultation with Gipsy Hill residents, to recognise this area’s commemoration of the heroes of the French resistance.
