Amazing biographies
Author discussions with Q&As. Sessions include: Costa prizewinner Jack Fairweather discusses Polish war hero Witold Pilecki, who volunteered to be imprisoned in Auschwitz to create an underground resistance; Lilian Pizzichini discusses Mariella Novotny, whose life and murder incorporated political scandal, the Profumo affair, JFK and bent London coppers in the highest places. A real highlight of the Festival will be music journalist Paul Morley discussing his new biography of Bob Dylan.
Fascinating Fiction
Patrick McGrath introduces his new novel Last Days in Cleaver Square, a Spanish Civil War veteran confronts his past; Leone Ross discusses her much anticipated This One Sky Day, Star-crossed lovers try to find their way back to one another across one day; Authors come together for A night to celebrate Love, Life, Laughter with Anstey Harris, James Bailey, Mike Gayle and Eva Verde; and Nadifa Mohamed discusses The Fortune Men, Mahmood is a chancer - not a murderer - but when a shopkeeper is murdered, suspicion falls on him.

Escape: One Day We Had To Run
Launch of Escape: One Day We Had to Run with Lantana Publishing

Written by Ming & Wah Chen and illustrated by Carmen Vela, this book shares emotive and inspiring personal narratives from refugees, asylum seekers and migrants across history and geographies, who have braved enormous challenges to find a safe home for their families. The event is hosted by the Holocaust Museum LA.

Create-write-connect: Free writing course with Spread the Word
Starts 27 May
Elle McNicoll is running a FREE course all about writing for children and young people. This 5-week course will guide you through and discuss narrative style, genre, character and the importance of Own Voices as well as the dos and don’ts for children’s fiction. Activities and readings are emailed to you weekly; there is no need to 'show up' to anything, you can take part in your own time. Book a free place here
