Dystopia Now!
Lambeth Libraries are delighted to be partnering in the launch of Dystopia Now!
The project looks at how we can improve pandemic life for young people locally. There are online activities and competitions for young people to get involved in with top prizes including a laptop, vouchers and books. Check out:
THIS IS THE YEAR poetry and spoken word competition for young writers (ages 11-16) competition open until 11 December.
DREAM LOCKDOWN Minecraft competition for young town planners, architects, and Minecraft enthusiasts (aged 6-16) to build their ideal lockdown neighbourhood in Minecraft server open until 20 December.
LIFE IN A DAY OF CORONA Film challenge and competition for young film makers (aged 16-19) to help us make a film "Life in a day of Corona" on Saturday 5 December.
Christmas Bedtime Stories
13 to 24 December. 7pm on Lambeth Libraries Instagram.
Get ready for Christmas and join in the festive spirit with Tamika for a 12 day bedtime Christmas count down of your favourite stories including the Night Before Christmas, I Love you father Christmas and many more . Our Start-ups in London Libraries workshops are now available as webinars which are accessible remotely, wherever you are. Check out our December schedule and register your place on one of the online workshops. This project is designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs turn their business idea into a reality.

It's Do-It-Yourself time again! Join the Friends of Durning Library with a selection of verse suitable for December and January. With all the festivities there should be no problem finding a short (2-5 mins) reading to fit the description. We'll start off and then hope at least some of you will join in with your choice. Like quizzes, hate poems? Try our 5-minute Mistlequiz! Pencil and paper optional. To help us into the spirit, bring your own glass and perhaps some festive garment or ornament. When the man accused of the rape and murder of Mary Ashford, a young Birmingham servant, was found not guilty, local gentlemen were so outraged they funded a second trial. So why did they also blame Mary for her own death?
Stockwell-based author and historian Naomi Clifford looks at a 200-year-old crime and asks if anything has really changed for women in the #metoo era. Vauxhall History event organised with the Friends of Tate South Lambeth Library.

It is widely known that P.G. Wodehouse was a proud old boy of Dulwich College. It is a little less well-known that Raymond Chandler, CS Forester and Dennis Wheatley were also alumni. Or that two Booker prize winning writers, Michael Ondaatje and Graham Swift, attended the school in the 1950s and ‘60s respectively. And that Booker nominated Tom McCarthy (‘C’) and Tom Rob Smith (Child 44) followed them in the 1980s and 90s.
Join author and historian Patrick Humphries talking about the life and works of these writers. Event organised by the Friends of Carnegie Library.
