Croxted Road (A2199) Bus Priority: consultation

Lambeth Council has announced a project to seek to improve bus journey times and improve road safety along Croxted Road from Norwood Road to Thurlow Park Road (A205). This work will be funded through Transport for London’s Bus Priority programme with design work funded in April 2025.

The aims include:

  • Faster and more reliable bus journeys
  • Reduced traffic and improved air quality
  • Safer, healthier streets for walking, cycling, and public transport
  • Better access to local shops, services, and schools

The Initial Engagement phase is now underway until 22 February 2026, and your views are sought on issues affecting bus journeys, potential improvements, and any wider changes you would like to see along the corridor. The Council will use feedback alongside data such as bus speeds, traffic counts and collision rates to develop concept designs, which will be consulted on at a future stage.

Norwood Forum has been engaging with Croxted Road Residents' Association and have previously supported their requests for more pedestrian crossings. They also continue their calls for road danger reduction initiatives including road markings and more visible 20mph signage with enforcement. They have identified the curve in the road just south of the rail bridge nearest Norwood Road as a pinch point where two buses frequently struggle to pass one another.

Local campaign group Solve the School Run Rosendale have supported the introduction of pedestrian crossings with an eye-catching campaign, lobbying for critical safety improvements as part of area wide strategy including Rosendale School Street. They have pointed to the improvement in bus times on this most congested section of Croxted Road following the introduction of the School Street and support further initiatives to reduce traffic and improve air quality.
