On Sunday afternoon 25 April two teenage girls, aged 16- and 17-years-old, suffered stab injuries during a violent incident at Norwood Road, West Norwood. The younger victim’s condition has been assessed as serious but stable, while the second victim’s injuries are not life-threatening. By Monday afternoon the Metropolitan police had made three arrests in relation to the incident.
Councillor Jacqui Dyer, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Community Safety, said: “This shocking incident has rightly caused serious concern in the local community, and we acknowledge the trauma that this attack has caused the many people who were witness to it, as well as the victim’s families, friends and wider community. We want to reassure the community that the council is working with the police to understand the circumstances of what happened, and that their investigations are proceeding at pace. We will also put in place support for people in West Norwood who have been affected by this incident, and feel they would benefit.”
