National Open Garden Scheme

This year’s open garden scheme has both pre-booked and on-line gardens. Where gardens are open, pre-booking is essential; pre-paid tickets will be available from Monday each week for all gardens open over the following ten days.

Locally, gardens at Becondale Road SE19, Lovelace Road SE21 and Norwood Park Road SE27 will be open for pre-booked visits. For visits further afield see: ngs.org.uk/

The local gardens are:

4 Becondale Road, SE19

This garden takes vertical planting to new heights - but is not for those who are afraid to walk a gangplank. It is packed with a mass of exotic and rich planting with a Mediterranean feel from Bougainvillea to bananas and palms to plumbago. Steeply sloping, it maximises every bit of height with plants cascading over high rise balconies and dropping down to a theatrically styled well of a garden. Open:

Sunday 16 August 2020 1pm - 5pm

38 Lovelace Road:

This gem of a garden has an all-white front and a family friendly back. The garden slopes gently upwards with curving borders, packed with an informal mix of roses, perennials and annuals. The garden is designed to be an easy to maintain oasis of calm at the end of a busy day. There are several smile-inducing features e.g. a dragon, the Cheshire cat and a stream. Lots of seating. Open:

Sunday 21 June 2020 1pm - 4:30pm

Sunday 12 July 2020 1pm - 4:30pm

7 Norwood Park Road SE27

The skills of two artists created this pretty cottage style garden in a suburban setting. Victoria does the planting and Mark created the structures to this 100ft garden divided into three areas. The plants are vibrant, and the star of the summer show is an eye-catching plum tree which in July hangs heavy with luscious fruits. Artists studio doubles up as a relaxing spot for evening sundowners. Open:

Sunday 19 July 2020 2pm - 6pm
