West Norwood Library & Picturehouse is to host Proscribed, a free exhibition by award winning portrait artist Jonny Kemp. The show centres on portraits of Defend Our Juries activists arrested during protest, asking a stark question about power, legality and who is deemed dangerous in contemporary Britain, and why?

The exhibition has drawings in fine liner pen, focussing on the arrested individual. Figures appear suspended, contorted or carried, isolated against blank space. By removing crowds, placards and uniforms, Kemp shifts attention away from spectacle and accusation, inviting viewers to consider how easily a person can be reduced to a legal category, lawful or unlawful, harmless or dangerous.
