Further to our earlier story here, this has been a fast moving situation with the trench works (outside West Norwood Co op) planned to begin on Monday (to coincide with half term), actually beginning on Saturday.
We have brought pressure to bear on Lambeth and the contractor and the following covers the latest information we have:
- The parking restriction signs on Lansdowne Hill will be removed immediately to facilitate Floral Hall customers on this, their biggest day of the year - Valentines Day. Bays were restricted to be used for deliveries, but no one discussed this with Station to Station or the retailers (apart from the Fruit and Veg stall) in advance
- Work is progressing well and will be moving onto the footway outside Wear Abouts tomorrow. This might mean the traffic lights can all be removed, providing there is the required space for the works to proceed safely.
- If the lights are not removed tomorrow, the works are on schedule to be completed by the end of Friday this week.
- The traffic queues remain appalling, but we are assured there is now staff on site 7am-7pm to regulate the phasing to mitigate this as much as possible. Originally we were told the lights would be manually operated during this period.
