Lambeth Council in partnership with Thames Water Utilities is announcing a new £6 million programme to help reduce flood risk and improve climate resilience across the borough.
Essentially, this programme will reduce the current risk of surface water flooding in the borough, and also improve resilience to climate change.
Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDs) will be installed. SuDs range from trees to wetlands and mimic natural drainage cycles, thereby alleviating pressure on the Borough's aging sewage system.
The programme will provide new green infrastructure on our local streets and open spaces that not only support the continued efforts to reduce flood risk for the borough’s residents and businesses, but also offer wider benefits such as cooling areas during heat waves, storing carbon and supporting mental health and wildlife.
