Following on from the public meeting on 4 December, the Forum sought further clarification from Thames Water and the Knights Hill and Thurlow Park ward councillors. New information provided by the councillors is that Tuesday 24 December is now the planned finish date for the current water mains works along Norwood Road (not 20 December). Road closures, compounds, portacabins etc will be removed progressively as Christmas approaches.
The delay is due to two water leaks this week which have delayed the project by one week. Delaying the Christmas closure will allow phase 4 to be completed so that phase 3a can start as planned on Monday 6 January 2020. There will be some earlier demobilising and Phase 2 at Tulse Hill should be completed and cleared away and the road fully opened by 17 December. The Phase 4 site should be clear by 10pm on 23 December with bus stops reopened and traffic lights recommissioned.
You can read here our original story about the reasons for the delays to the current works (originally the current works were to be finished by 30 November) and the detail we have on the works to begin on 6 January. We have sought but have no further information about the traffic management and bus (rerouting and stops) proposals for the 2020 works.
