Operation Eagle - community volunteers needed urgently

We really need you today: Lambeth is responding to confirmation of a single case of the Covid South African variant in the south of the borough, and are commencing a ‘surge test’ programme in part of Knight’s Hill ward (West Norwood) and Streatham Wells ward (East Streatham). Please see below for all the volunteer-specific details, and please read about the details of the programme here, where you can also check if you need to get tested yourself using your postcode.

Lambeth will be working in partnership with the NHS Test and Trace service to test everyone who lives, works in, or visits the area. If you live or work in the affected area, advice is to continue to adhere to current lockdown restrictions and advice.

Operation Eagle: community testing volunteers - Streatham Wells and Knight's Hill
Lambeth is ‘surge testing’ an area in between West Norwood (part of Knight's Hill ward) and Streatham (part of Wells ward) in response to a single reported case of South African variant in the area. The Public Health team urgently need your help to hand deliver Covid PCR tests (the 'gold standard' Covid test, according to Matt Hancock) to residents in the affected area, and then collect the completed tests two hours later. Training and PPE will be provided. You will be working in ‘distanced pairs’ for security and support – alternating doors along roads and in blocks. You will NEVER need to enter properties.

The testing programme starts this Thursday, based at Dunraven School, Leigham Court Road, Streatham – the weather is due to be clear but very cold. You will need to be very warmly dressed, and steady on your feet for stairs and possibly icy footpaths. Shifts will be 4 hours long – 2 hour circuits of handing out tests, followed by a 2 hour circuit of picking up the completed tests.

Please let us know if you can help and if you already have a volunteer ‘partner’ (don’t worry – we’ll introduce you to another lovely volunteer if not). Please note that there is not a lot of car parking near Dunraven School, but plenty of cycle parking on site.
