We have reported previously on the plans by Southwark Metals to establish a new scrap metal recycling business at the old car breakers site in Windsor Grove, SE27 9DT (off Norwood High Street and close to the Royal Mail sorting office). Before submitting a planning application, Southwark Metals are holding two public exhibitions at St. Lukes Church:
Monday 9 December (5-8pm)
Wednesday 11 December (11am-3pm)
Southwark Metals are working with Urban & Provincial on the proposal for:
- A modernised and enclosed facility (10m high)
- Both metal recycling and vehicle de-pollution
- An increase in licensed tonnage from 25,000 p.a. (for the current suspended operation) to 33,000 scrap metal and 3,000 for end of life vehicles
The necessary transport assessment has not been undertaken, and will be part of the planning application to Lambeth Council early in the new year. You can read more here.
There are concerns on traffic generation in West Norwood town centre (with heavy diesel vehicles delivering scrap metal), and noise and other pollution adversely affecting neighbouring houses, industrial premises, Kingswood Primary School and Park Campus.
Local councillors have visited the existing Southwark Metals site off Old Kent Road SE15 and report on the issues here. Norwood Action Group has met with Southwark Metals and their views are here.
We urge you to attend the exhibitions to hear more on the proposals, and give your feedback.
