Earlier this year Lambeth Council invited the local community in Knights Hill Ward to say where and how local streets could be made better under the Our Streets programme: “The main focus of Our Streets is on speed limits and traffic calming; parking and loading arrangements; crossing points; car clubs; cycling facilities; public realm improvements; seating; bins; greenery; signage and removal of street clutter. However, we encourage residents to raise wider concerns.”
The Council states there was a strong response, particularly around certain road safety issues in the ward. From this information, and after further investigation, the Council has developed some proposals that address a number of the issues. These are almost exclusively traffic calming measures:
- Knollys Road to Canterbury Grove area: red road surfacing, double yellow lines and road humps
- Lamberhurst Road, Cheviot Road and Lakeview Road area: red road surfacing, double yellow lines and road humps
- Knights Hill: northbound after Crown Lane junction: 20 mph roundels and banners, and speed activated speed limit signs
- 80-112 Tivoli Road: community garden
- Ernest Avenue/Thornlaw Road/Knights Hill: extended island to prevent illegal turn
- Devane Way: new parking measures
- West Norwood station: spotlight at Knights Hill pedestrian crossing and repaired pigeon proofing and new lighting at Norwood High Street
