International Women’s Day is a worldwide celebration of everyone who identifies as a woman, a chance to engage in activities and reflect on women’s successes as well as the barriers and challenges we still face in society. This year International Women’s Day is on 8 March, so look out for events being held by local organisations and groups to celebrate and raise awareness; we have listed details of some events.
The South London Botanical Institute has a month long series of events to celebrate. For instance on the 8th they will transport you to Cape Town to explore the botanical wonders of the Overberg Renosterveld.
Lambeth Council is highlighting IWD as a great opportunity to say thank you and highlight the hard work and dedication of women in Lambeth. They are asking you to show your appreciation and say thank you by sharing a kind message about the women who make you love Lambeth on social media using the hashtags #LoveLambeth and #IWD21. Let’s show our support and make them feel extra special. More information can be found here. The day is also being marked with a programme of events coordinated by the staff Women’s Forum. Gender based violence continues to be a key form of gender inequality, and many council staff have chosen to challenge violence against women and girls (VAWG). The services provided by Gaia Centre, a gender-based violence service, are also being highlighted. Read more here.
Lambeth Libraries also has a series of events; see the details here further down in our news section.
