Have your say on Lambeth’s Budget

Further to our earlier story, Lambeth Council’s consultation programme on its budget for the next four years is now underway. The Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance states:

“This is a hugely challenging and important financial strategy, outlining how we propose to make the further £43m of savings required following central government cuts, while still providing the vital services that residents expect and that look after the most vulnerable people in our borough.

London Mayor plan: Vision Zero to eliminate deaths on London's roads

The Mayor of London, Transport for London (TfL) and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) have today published London’s first ‘Vision Zero’ action plan, which sets out bold and ambitious plans to eliminate deaths and serious injuries from London’s transport network. Each year more than 2,000 people are killed or seriously injured on London’s streets, taking a devastating toll on the people involved, their families and communities across the capital. The Plan includes:

Project Smith: Community Connectors Training Course

  • Want to be healthier, happier and live longer?
  • Want to make a difference in your local community?
  • Want to learn new skills to improve your health and wellbeing?

Project Smith Community Connectors is all about people living in Lambeth who want to get involved in improving health and wellbeing where they live.

Knights Hill consultation – Our Streets

Earlier this year Lambeth Council invited the local community in Knights Hill Ward to say where and how local streets could be made better under the Our Streets programme: “The main focus of Our Streets is on speed limits and traffic calming; parking and loading arrangements; crossing points; car clubs; cycling facilities; public realm improvements; seating; bins; greenery; signage and removal of street clutter. However, we encourage residents to raise wider concerns.”

West Norwood Library & Picturehouse

Both our fantastic new library and cinema have laid on regular classes and special film showings for our local community.  Here’s a flavour of what’s going on but do always check before travelling.

At the Picturehouse:

West Norwood Cemetery: Green Flag Award

West Norwood Cemetery first entered the Green Flag Award scheme (www.greenflagaward.org) in 2016 and has continued to be a holder of this prestigious award in each successive year. It was judged in May 2018 by two experienced Green Flag Award judges who were suitably impressed by its rich heritage, biodiversity and community involvement, which was evident in how the cemetery was laid out, being used and maintained.

Norwood Road: Thames Water survey works until 14.12.18

Thames Water has written to local residents to advise they have started survey works on Norwood Road from Robson Road (West Norwood end) to the junction with Christchurch Road (south circular road; Tulse Hill gyratory).

The current survey works will be carried out overnight (10pm-5am) Sunday to Thursday in stages and should be completed by Friday 14 December.

Thames Water states they may need to turn off the water supply at local addresses, but if so they will advise in writing beforehand.

Draft Review of Lambeth Local Plan: make your comments

We have reported on two occasions about the ongoing draft review of the Lambeth Local Plan. This revised Local Plan will set out the vision for the development of the borough for the next 15 years (at least in theory).

In our last website news story we invited questions about the draft plan as we had arranged a meeting with Lambeth Council planning and transport officers, Councillors and other invited local groups as there were a number of areas where we wanted clarity. We provide links to the Lambeth Council consultation page and key documents below.
