Lambeth Libraries events February 2021

The Lambeth Libraries February update including services that are available online, advice on not to worry about returinng books and fines during the current lockdown, and the LGBTQ+ festival and other events:

LGBTQ+ History month

Lambeth Libraries are continuing to provide an online service only while the current Covid restrictions are in place. Please don't worry about your books and fines - just hang on to the books until better times. We are really sorry about this but we need to do everything we can to help reduce the spread of the infection at the moment. We hope you find some great new reading via our online services

We know that the school closures present an incredibly challenging time for all parents and carers. Our librarians have pulled together some extra fun and learning to help. A great place to start is the National Literacy Trust’s Words for Life website with activities for children of all ages. Little learners can practise their shapes and the days of the week with Topsy and Tim; enjoy playtime and numbers with Peppa Pig; and find out about colours, family trees and making friends with activities from Wise Before Five! Check out more great activities below.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us on libraries@lambeth.gov.uk - we'll be happy to help. Happy reading and we look forward to seeing you in the future.

Writing Competition for Lambeth residents with publishers Simon & Schuster

Digital Originals

Lambeth Libraries and Simon & Schuster are delighted to announce that they will be hosting a #DigitalOriginals #OneDay open submission day (#LoveLamLibOneDay) exclusively for residents of the London Borough of Lambeth, enabling authors to bypass the traditional route to publishing and submit, for the first time, directly to the editorial team.

S&S are inviting residents of Lambeth to submit the first three chapters of their unpublished fiction manuscript on 15 May 2021 for consideration for #DigitalOriginals, the S&S eBook first publishing programme, as part of the Lambeth Libraries Readers and Writers Literary Festival 2021.

Simon & Schuster’s Sara-Jade Virtue said:

‘I’m immensely proud of the #OneDay open submission initiative. We know that sometimes the route to publishing can be a daunting, confusing and at times terrifying road, but with #OneDay, all of the usual rules and regulations are cast aside. I’m very much looking forward to working closely with the team at Lambeth Libraries and am excited to receive submissions from residents.’

For entry details and information visit Simon & Schuster's Books and the City website.
