“Every act of rebellion expresses a nostalgia for innocence and an appeal to the essence of being.”
Albert Camus, The Rebel.
This month Radical Readers discuss Camus’s extended essay exploring rebellion and revolution. The Rebel looks at artistic and political rebels throughout history, from Epicurus to the Marquis de Sade.
Radical Readers is a monthly reading group hosted by Brixton Library. Free entry and open to all. Book a place here and borrow books from Lambeth Libraries here.

New app for e-books and e-audiobooks
We moved our digital library from RBdigital to the Libby app last month. You will continue to be able to browse, borrow, and enjoy all the same great e-books and audiobooks you loved in the RBdigital app, now available in Libby from OverDrive.
To log in enter your card number including 'LMP' at the beginning and discluding any spaces. Select Lambeth Libraries as your library, not an individual branch...and enjoy!

We are chuffed to bits to be able to resume our Select & Collect and reservations services for books. Happy readers = happy Librarians!

If you know precisely what you're after you can reserve up to 20 books online. Once your items are ready you will be contacted by a Librarian who will book you in for an appointment to come and collect them.

If you're not sure what to read next you can ask your knowledgeable local Librarian to make a selection of up to 20 books for you by emailing or calling your nearest branch. Once your items are ready you will be contacted by a Librarian to make an appointment to come and collect them.
Renewals and Returns
Books can be renewed online and may be returned to any Lambeth library during opening hours without prior appointment; just leave them on the Returns trolley and they will be collected and quarantined for 72 hours before being discharged from your record.

Writing Competition for Lambeth residents with publishers Simon & Schuster
Lambeth Libraries and publisher Simon & Schuster are delighted to announce that they will be hosting a #DigitalOriginals #OneDay open submission day (#LoveLamLibOneDay) exclusively for residents of the London Borough of Lambeth, enabling authors to bypass the traditional route to publishing and submit, for the first time, directly to the editorial team.
S&S are inviting residents of Lambeth to submit the first three chapters of their unpublished fiction manuscript on 15 May 2021 for consideration for #DigitalOriginals, the S&S eBook first publishing programme, as part of the Lambeth Libraries Readers and Writers Literary Festival 2021.

This April marks the 40th anniversary of the 1981 Brixton Uprising, an event that resonated with the black community across the world. 81 Acts of Exuberant Defiance is a community led project which offers an opportunity to learn the lessons of the past and take action to challenge, inform, build and strengthen our communities today. Working with The Brixton Project, the anniversary weekend will mark the beginning of a year-long cultural activation programme across Brixton. Individuals, community groups and organisation are encouraged to participate in 81 Acts of exuberant defiance by engaging with our 6 themes.
