Thriving Norwood Neighbourhood Wellbeing Day

On Saturday 13 September, Thriving Norwood held an exciting Neighbourhood Wellbeing Day in West Norwood Health Leisure Centre. Thriving Norwood is a Norwood Forum project promoting and supporting wellbeing for everyone across our neighbourhood.

The idea of the Neighbourhood Wellbeing Day was to share information about wellbeing activities, events and groups in West Norwood. To help people find out about, and sign up to, activities to improve their wellbeing. Lots of local residents came along, joined in and had fun. The free refreshments encouraged people to stay and chat.

Local organisations had information tables including: Age UK (exercisesocialise@ageuklambeth.org), U3A (norwood.u3asite.uk/) , Centre 70 (centre70.org.uk/), High Trees Centre (www.high-trees.org/) and West Norwood Library (libraries.lambeth.gov.uk/-/west-norwood-library).

The Wellbeing Bus team were very busy giving health information and carrying out blood pressure checks and other health teams gave information about cancer support and giving up smoking.(www.lambethtogether.net/lambeths-health-and-wellbeing-bus/)

Throughout the day, people tried out free taster workshops in stretching, dancing, singing and laughing.

Line dancing classes can be found in Active Lambeth Leisure Centres, including Streatham (active.lambeth.gov.uk/)  and Singing Mamas (www.singingmamas.org/find-a-group) have groups for mums and babies locally including Herne Hill.

Lambeth Horticultural Society hosted a stall where you could plant spring bulbs and take them home with you, and Open Orchard a stall where you could taste local apples and learn about their fantastic community planting projects. The free short meditation and breathing workshops were very popular and gave people a chance to relax and breathe, and local sewing group, The Stitch, held an all day bunting making workshop.

All workshops were very busy and people enjoyed the chance to try something out.

If you like sewing and would like to join The Stitch group, they meet every second Saturday in West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre - find out more here - www.facebook.com/groups/166871367061552
