Local walks

Every day

Some self-guided scenic walks locally and further afield.  Please follow the latest Covid-19 legal requirements and government guidance.

  1. West Norwood Cemetery: read the Friends of West Norwood Cemetery quarterly magazines. The monthly walks (first Sunday of each month) are currently suspended; their publications can normally be purchased at the Cemetery office (but this is currently closed). The Wednesday health walks from the West Norwood Health & Leisure Centre are also currently suspended.
  2. Visit some pocket gardens in SE27, established and maintained by groups of local volunteers. Start at West Norwood Bzz Garage at Norwood Bus Garage at the bottom of Knights Hill SE27, walk up the hill to the West Norwood Gateway Garden on the corner of Knights Hill and Chapel Road. You'll then need an A-Z or the map on your mobile to navigate the 15 minute hike along Chapel Road/Auckland Hill/St. Cloud Road to Vale Street and the Tritton Vale Pocket Garden on the corner of Vale Street and Tivoli Road. Then its another 15 minute walk north, west and north again along residential roads (Martell Road, Chancellor Grove/Idmiston Road/ Chatsworth Way/Norwood Road/) to reach just north of the junction of Norwood Road with Elmcourt Road. Here you will find the Hoopla Garden, established 2011, and just across the road the Harpenden Road pocket garden. Special thanks to Incredible Edidible Lambeth and Open Orchard
  3. Dulwich Common via Belair Park, Dulwich Picture Gallery (currently, the exterior only) and Dulwich Village

  8. Peabody Hill: from Thurlow Park Road near Tulse Hill station, walk up Thurlow Hill and Peabody Hill, follow the path down to the Peabody (Rosendale) Estate and Rosendale Road, left to Brockwell Park. See Brixton Buzz story here
