Trains

Norwood Forum is raising concerns with Southern, Thameslink, and local representatives about the ongoing issues with train reliability, frequency, and service standards at our local stations: Tulse Hill, West Norwood, and Gipsy Hill.

The issues

Many passengers continue to experience:

  • Frequent delays and cancellations, especially at peak times
  • Reduced services compared to pre-Covid levels
  • Limited transparency on performance data prior to April 2025
  • A growing sense that paying customers are not being prioritised

Despite the success of newer lines like the Elizabeth Line - which shows strong passenger demand for public transport - services through Norwood remain limited and unreliable.

What we’re asking for

Norwood Forum is calling for:

  • Clarity on current performance: With the Office of Rail and Road’s new performance data now available (as of April 2025), we want to know how current services compare to previous years.
  • A return to pre-Covid service levels: Timetables have not yet recovered, and we want to understand why - and when this will change.
  • A clear strategy to improve reliability: What steps are being taken to reduce delays, cancellations, and improve passenger experience?

We are asking operators to demonstrate how they are placing the needs of commuters at the centre of their improvement plans.

Why this matters

Reliable, frequent, and accessible train services are essential for our local economy, for reducing car dependency, and for ensuring that Norwood remains a well-connected part of South London.
