SE27 Street Gardeners: Gardening Session and Café Social along Norwood Road

The SE27 Street Gardeners meet for relaxed Sunday gardening sessions. Last year they started gardening along Norwood Road to replant and look after the nine pavement beds. This Spring they will adding lots of new plants!

The project aims to improve our main shopping street by adding greenery so it’s a great place to live, socialise and work. Adding more plants will deliver climate benefits too. Green spaces improve air quality, reduce the risk of flash flooding and reduce urban heat stress in our increasingly hot summers. By choosing plants that support pollinators like bees, the planting will also be improving biodiversity (no pollinators = food shortages for humans).

If you want to see a greener West Norwood and Tulse Hill or fancy a space to garden and would like to connect with other local people, drop in for a session! It’s a new evolving group so will be shaped by local people. Optional café or pub social afterwards.

No gardening experience is needed, and you’ll learn plenty about urban greening. Tools provided but bring gloves if you have them and wear sturdy footwear!

The gardening sessions are an Open Orchard initiative. Open Orchard is a group of local people who plant mini orchards around the area and look after the garden at Norwood Bus Garage.
