New Cargo Bike Launches on Norwood Road

A new rental cargo bike has been launched on Norwood Road by OurBike, hosted by Bon Velo bicycle shop (495 Norwood Road). The bike is part of an expanding fleet provided by OurBike and can be rented for £0.75 per 15 mins, with the first hour free for new users (three hours for business users). Designed with a powerful battery to tackle Norwood's steep hills, the bike features a spacious cabin with a padded seat, capable of transporting up to two children or one adult - and goods can be protected with the rain cover. For the bike's user instructions, visit here. Make sure you download the latest version of the OurBike app for easy registration and bike access with the simple slide unlock feature.

We were at the launch event along with local BID Station to Station, who are promoting its use for local businesses, and Solve the School Run, which advocates for sustainable transport options for families. Lambeth Council representatives were also present. Training sessions can be booked through OurBike for free and tips on riding a three wheel cargo bike can be found here.

A test ride found it easy to use, though it does feel different to a regular bike. Riders should turn corners slowly and carefully, especially on roads with a strong camber. Remember to switch the power on at the controls located on the handlebars before setting off and the power level can be adjusted using the up and down arrows. The parking brakes can be applied by pressing the buttons on the regular brakes, which are pressed again to unlock.

Norwood Forum has been requesting the provision of an OurBike in the area for some time and we're very grateful to Bon Velo for hosting this new service. We will continue to push for more locations around the Norwood area. Businesses can apply to become a host here.
