Centrepoint Plans Affordable Homes for Young People Near Gipsy Hill

The youth homelessness charity Centrepoint is consulting Norwood residents about plans for a new development near Gipsy Hill station.

It wants to build 18 affordable homes for young people on a disused car park at the end of the Charters Close estate. The residents, aged 18 to 25, would come from supported accommodation and need to have jobs before moving in. Their rent would be capped at one third of their take-home pay, to help them make the transition from full support to independence. After two years, they would move into the private rented sector.

The development, which is part of the charity’s Independent Living Programme, is low-rise and Centrepoint hopes to submit a planning application next month with the flats completed by the end of 2026.

The charity held an open evening on 14 January 2025 for the local community to discuss the venture and welcomes comments online
