Urban greening along Norwood Road with Open Orchard

Some of you may have noticed the pavement beds along Norwood Road. The beds start outside the Knowles of Norwood pub and end outside Village Masaleh curry house at the Tulse Hill end. Local community group Open Orchard have recently launched a new project, the SE27 Street Gardeners, to look after the beds by adding new plants and tidying.

They meet for relaxed drop in Sunday morning gardening sessions with an optional café or pub social afterwards. New plants are chosen to support pollinators (no bees = food shortages for humans). You are invited to try out a session! Tools are provided and no gardening experience is needed – you’ll learn by doing and from others. The aim is to create a greener neighbourhood, provide a space for people to garden and an opportunity to connect with other locals.

Take a look at the Open Orchard website to learn more about the group's greening projects and the climate benefits of pavement beds.
