Robes Project: volunteering opportunities

For the past few years St Luke’s Church West Norwood has participated in the Robes Project, a homelessness project that arranges for around 75 rough sleepers in Lambeth and Southwark to have a hot meal, a warm bed and a fortifying breakfast, in a church building, through the winter months from November to mid-January.

They also help people back into permanent housing and to access the other services that they need. The shelter is run by volunteers from St. Luke’s, other churches in the area and volunteers from the wider community. They would love new volunteers to join now in one of the following roles:

Breakfast Team

Could you get a small team (eg 2-5 people) together to cook and serve breakfast for around 30 people one Sunday morning? You can cook at home and warm it up in the kitchen at St Luke’s. Breakfast teams usually arrive around 7am and leave around 9am, after the washing up. No training or DBS checks are needed.

 Overnight Team

Overnighters volunteer as individuals. We provide training and a basic DBS disclosure is required (either from an existing role or you can get them online). Overnighters usually arrive around 5:30pm on Saturday and leave around 9am on Sunday mornings. Our Overnight Team meets for training on Monday 28 October so anyway wanting to do this will need to get in touch by that morning at the latest.
