Although Love Box have withdrawn their application Field Day has been given permission to go ahead and the event is likely to be held on Friday 1 June and Saturday 2 June 2018 subject to obtaining licensing permission.
Brockwell Park Community Partners - the park stakeholder group of which Norwood Forum is a constituent - have voiced concern that the festival is too big for Brockwell Park with up to 40,000 people, the noise and disturbance to community activities and the access restrictions for ordinary park users during set-up, build-down and during the festival itself. Norwood Forum is open to the park being used for festivals but want to ensure that they are appropriate and do not take up too large a part of the Summer when local people will want to enjoy the park. We also recognise that there are many people who do want to come to festivals like Field Day and will no doubt enjoy the event.
The positive fall-out from the public controversy has been that councillors are beginning to question the Events Policy of the Council and the outcome of the Culture 2020 consultation, on which much of the policy is based. Brockwell Park Community Partners have come to an agreement on a strategic partnership board to oversee strategic planning for the park; it is hoped that this will be a vehicle for discussion and modification of Lambeth's Events Policy in the future.
