The Grade 1 listed (at risk) iron and concrete Crystal Palace dinosaurs were installed on islands in the lake for the opening of Crystal Palace Park in 1854 and can be visited just a short walk from Crystal Palace railway station. The Friends of Crystal Palace Dinosaurs promote the long-term conservation of the statues, the larger geological site, and plants, working with the London Borough of Bromley, Historic England and others to ensure the dinosaurs get the care and attention they need.
The Megegalosaur (pictured below) was vandalised in May 2020, and it is great to see that the Friends instigated a successful grant application to Historic England to fund the necessary restoration, which is now underway.
You can support the work of the Friends by making a financial donation, volunteering your time, or buying the goodies listed. The photo below is one of the T shirts.
