Ultra Low Emission Zone: is your car caught?

A central London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will start operating in just over a year’s time in April 2019.  It will cover exactly the same area as the Congestion Charge Zone and the current T-charge zone which is charging £10 a day for vehicles not meeting the Euro 4/V1 standards.

Its easy to check whether your vehicle meets the necessary criteria; simply enter the registration number here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/vrm-checker-ulez

Consultation is underway to extend the existing ULEZ. It is proposed that the south circular road (Christchurch and Thurlow Park Roads in our area) becomes the southern boundary of a new ULEZ in October 2021. To have your say by 28 February 2018 on this proposal go to: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/environment/air-quality-consultation-phase-3b/?cid=airquality-consultation

The ULEZ criteria is as follows:

Diesel cars and vans: Euro 6 standard for NOx and particulates

Petrol cars and vans: Euro 4 NOx

Motorcycles and scooters: Euro 3 NOx .

If the above criteria is not met, a £12.50 daily charge must be paid to enter the ULEZ. The daily charge for lorries and buses exceeding Euro 1V is £100.
